The park is stretched over 25 acres of land, and it is distinct due to its vast sculpture. The park is also home to the official baseball team of Las Cruces. Apodaca Park was named after Mike Apodaca, Las Cruces Mayor from 1953-1955. The sculpture dealing with the park doorway, called Dineh Navajo and Apache for "person," honored all the native individuals of the latest Mexico and became dedicated in 1986. The 8-acre ballpark that covers almost one-third of the general park area was obtained by way of the city in 1953 said metropolis Parks and activity Director Mark Johnston. The 17-acre park itself was devoted in h honor of Las Cruces Mayor Mike Apodaca in 1957, who served from 1953 to 1955.

The sculpture, "Dineh," is 20 ft high, with a diameter of five ft, and is present on the southwest corner of the park, easily seen from Madrid Avenue. The base is approximately six feet excessive, with a diameter of eight ft. The pine sculpture's inscription reads DINEH/ (people in Navajo and Apache/trail of the Whispering Giants. This 57th statue honors all local Americans of New Mexico/Sculpture via Peter Wolf Toth/committed on August 23, 1986. The statue looks like a bust of an older local-American guy. He has long hair and meditation around his neck. His lips are barely parted, revealing his teeth.
